Recap on the 2023 Grammy Awards

On Sunday night Feburary 5th, one of the biggest nights in music took place. It was an eventful night filled with head turns, controversies and records being broken.

Beyonce took home 3 awards with Best R&B Song, Best Traditional R&B Performance, Best Dance/Electronic Music Album. These awards helped Beyonce to break the record for the most Grammy wins ever with 32 Grammys. 

 

Harry Styles won 2 grammy awards with one being Album of the Year  and Best Pop Vocal Album for his album Harry’s House. Controversy erupted when Styles was heckled at from an audience member saying, “Beyonce should have one!” during his Album of the Year acceptance speech. 

Other big wins of the night was the song “Unholy” by Sam Smith and Kim Petra. They took home the award for Best Pop Duo or Group Performance, making Kim Petra the first transgender woman to win that award. 

Adele won Best Pop Solo Performance for “Easy on Me.” Lizzo won Record of the Year with “About Damn Time.” Song Of the Year was a bit of a surprise – going to Bonnie Raitt for “Just like That.” And lastly, Best New Artist was awarded to Samara Joy. 

The award show was also full of jaw dropping performances by Harry Styles, Lizzo, Bad Bunny and more. A celebration of 50 years of hip hop was  performed by LL Cool J, Big Boi, Busta Rhymes and more.
