Thursday, April 27 the boys track team went up against nearby South Bend teams for the meet known as the City Meet. This is Coach McCarthy’s favorite night and is an important part of the season. The boys team ultimately placed second after many personal best’s and big time drops.

The night started off with a win in the 110 meter hurdles by Luke Kaufhold who also took a win in the 300 meter hurdles later. The distance boys also had a successful night of second place wins from Lucas Miller in the 800 meter run and Carmelo Russo in the two mile. The last win of the night came from the boys 4×400 event with an outstanding performance by Le’Brayln Booker, Lucas Miller, Gavin Sparke, and Sam Sparks.

On the field events side, Brady Farrell took first place with a great jump in pole vault. The boys throwers also had a good night with a third place win from Ji’ Lahni Kearse in discus and third place win from Jamond Smith in shot put.

A huge highlight of the night was a win from Ian Joyce in high jump. His jump of 6’4” broke the school record and was a personal record he has been working on for a while. The moment was an especially joyous experience since he tied the record the previous week and was excited to see if he could break it that night.

The boys ultimately placed second with a score of 120 points. After many time drops and personal bests achieved, the team is on track to have a great rest of the season.
