Saint Joe Athlete Spotlight: Ryan Larkins

Ben Kromkowski, Staff Writer

Recently I got a chance to talk to Ryan Larkins, a 4 year member of the boys soccer team. Looking to earn a starting spot on the team and having a year he would be satisfied with, he knew he had to put in work during the off season to get to his highest ability. This work has so far paid off as he has been a regular starter in the defense this season in addition to playing other roles on the field. Ryan said he has tried to just go out every game and play his heart out. With this mentality in his mind, he has definitely played to his liking so far, having his first goal of the season come in the beginning of the year to win the game, as well as scoring the last goal in penalty kicks against Adams to win.

With hopes of going back to state for the second year in a row, he said the team must come together and take it one game at a time. He emphasized the importance of trust on this team and how they must all play their role if they want to succeed. Despite their season being far from over, he has said this season has shown him that hard work and perseverance really does pay off.
