This is Quavo’s 2nd solo studio album as his last project “QUAVO HUNCO” was a bit of a disappointment with only a few tracks that were memorable. Quavo meant to drop a project in late fall of 2022 until the tragic death of Takeoff, a member of the Migos who was one of Quavo’s closest friends. He named the album “Rocket Power” because Takeoff’s nickname used to be Rocket which is something that most people don’t know.
He starts the album off with “Fueled Up” which serves as a great intro- easily one of his best solo tracks he has ever made. During the middle of the track, Quavo says “I gotta go up for Take” noting that at the end of the track you can hear a sample of Takeoff’s voice reciting a lyric he used in “Only Built for Infinity Links.” Quavo doing this was a moment that all Migos fans appreciated as it made us remember Takeoff on that album and how good he really was.
After a few more tracks he has a track called “Mama Told Me.” This track was referring to the hit song by the Migos called “T-shirt.” In this track he refernces his mother ‘s advice and how he is still following that advice to this day.
During the late stage of the album is where Quavo used his old sounds – going back to his roots. On 11:11 he talks about how he cries till he closes his eyes being another moment honoring Takeoff. Then on the song “Greatness” he gives a perfect outro and another message for Takeoff. Quavo says he would give up all of his jewelry and houses just to see him one more time. He also states in the song ” I couldn’t do it without the greatest nephew in the world.” Throughout this album, he makes sure we remember Takeoff and his legacy.
Overall this album was a great listen. There were tracks that could get you hyped up and also tracks where it really made the fans sit and listen to the lyrics Quavo was bringing. This album was full of Quavo’s raw emotions and how he has been since losing his nephew Takeoff. This album was well worth the wait and is keeping fans anticipated for his next project. Overall I rate this album a 9/10 as one of the best albums to drop this year and a great listen from start to finish.
