On Sunday, August 27, 2023 Christ Child Society was open for students who wanted to volunteer in serving children in need.
All Saint Joe students were invited to attend this service opportunity. There were only seven students who volunteered at Christ Child Society, including myself, and my two friends Ybarra and Gonzalez. We all had to arrive around 12:30 pm and check in. There were different areas to work in. The area they put me to work in was “New Clothing,” along with Ybarra and two other students.
Before any of us did anything, we all got called in to do prayer with the rest of the staff. After prayer, me and Ybarra were shown on what to do. They showed us where each section of clothing would be at such as, briefs, t-shirts, jeans, leggings, joggers, sweatshirts, uniforms, etc. Each section was organized by size. We would get a paper of the things the children needed along with a bag to put the clothes in. If the child is four years old or under, we were told to give them a stuffed animal.
It was optional if you wanted to be paired up or not, so me and Ybarra decided to pair up. She was grabbing the clothes and bag(s) while I had the list, checking the things we had out. Whenever we were done, we would put the paper in the bag and it would be given to the family. We did that repeatedly. Due to the fact that I’m bilingual, whenever Hispanic families needed help, the staff would call me. I would translate their questions and give back answers. So if you’re bilingual, Christ Child Society would appreciate your help. It was such an amazing experience! There are more opportunities to volunteer at Christ Child Society and I would strongly recommend to do so. If you’re interested to do service there, you can go on MobileServe to find out more information.
