Aidan’s Masterpiece is a club dedicated to the memory of Aidan Short – a Saint Joe student who passed away unexpectedly in a car accident in March of 2018.
The third of three brothers, Aidan loved to play both baseball and basketball, like his older brother. Already a good baseball player at the age of 5 (especially at pitching). Aidan even began giving pointers to the coach by the age of 8.
During junior year he realized his goal in life was to help others. He loved making those around him feel better, and impacting their lives in a positive way. This was his way of fun.
Although he wasn’t always a straight A student, Aidan devoted his time to activities that were more important to him than homework. He prioritized making an impact on others over school. He coached for Holy Cross Grade School, bringing a shine to his face while doing so. It was obvious his passion was to make those around him happy. He made others feel included and provided a safe space to everyone who had the privilege to be around him
Aidan’s Masterpiece has over 200 volunteers and 11 organizations around South Bend. They have accomplished over a dozen projects since founding the club. They are making sure that Aidan’s memory is held sacred, and honoring his purpose of serving others.
On September 9th starting from eight in the morning until twelve in the afternoon, the Aidan’s Masterpiece club painted Aidan’s parking spot. The painting consisted of Aidan’s name, as well as Ahmed and Saleem, who passed a year and a half ago, and Beverly who passed recently. Their names were written inside of four petals of a flower. The petals were each filled with colors that represented the teens, and a symbol showing off their passions. The flower’s stem consisted of everyone’s handprints who helped paint the parking spot, which shows unity.
Coming up is the annual Trunk or Treat at Holy Cross Grade School. Aidan’s Masterpiece is going to be helping run this event in the honor of Aidan. They help set up tables, give out candy, face paint, run activities, and more! This is a way to keep his memory alive in a positive way. Please join them on October 29th!
