Retreats for this year have started up. In fact, the first few already took place on September 20th and 21st.
Much of the senior class attended these wonderful walking retreats on Notre Dame’s campus which included a full day of reflections and religious sightseeing.
Students that attended these retreats were given a full tour of the basilica at Notre Dame including a mass and confession. The beautiful stained glass windows and elaborate painted ceiling were awe inspiring and the perfect space to come together with the larger community of Notre Dame and celebrate the mass. The retreat continued with a look into the Log Chapel where our chaplain Fr.David shared the deep history of Notre Dame. He specifically discussed the origins of the Log Chapel and even showed the students the many relics in the back room.
The day finally ended with the students heading to the lakes to walk and pray the stations of the cross to bring everything back to the focus of Christ’s sacrifice. This path along the lake was very calming: stopping at each station to reflect was a great way to end the day.
All in all the retreats seemed to be a huge success with the seniors with one student saying, “I think the retreat was really helpful in clearing my mind because of all of the beautiful things we learned and saw. From just walking around in nature to looking at all the beautiful art in the Basilica it was just really eye opening about the beauty God inspires in the world.”
With the first two retreats now completed, it’s safe to say that these days should definitely be something the underclassmen and juniors look forward to as the year continues.
