The SAT is a mandatory test taken by juniors all over the United States (and internationally if they choose to). The SAT is seen as dreaded, and people are frequently nervous for it. Luckily for students, you are given many opportunities to study and partake in SAT Prep. There are multiple SAT Prep courses that can help prepare students to take the SAT. These courses usually run for about 12 weeks, with classes twice a week. Although it can be boring, and not at the top of someone’s to do list, they are very helpful for those worried or struggling in those topics.
The SAT has 3 areas of questions, with a reading section, writing/language section, and math sections (calculator and no calculator). There are different amounts of time for each section. In the reading section there is 65 minutes, the writing and language section is 35 minutes, and the math portion is 80 minutes. There is also an optional essay that you have for 50 minutes to take.
The SAT isn’t mandatory to send in for every college, as the SAT is becoming less and less of a necessity. But if a student gets a good score (above a 1200 is above the 75th percentile), it’s high recommended for them to send it in. A score of above 1040 is average for students. But submitting a bad score could be harmful for your chances to be accepted into a college. But regardless of if your college needs an SAT score or not, every student should try their hardest just in case they end up getting a great score and can submit it to college! Good luck on your tests, and remember to study.
