Despite the girl’s slow start to the season they have found their mid-season form in the past few games. They’ve had six games in the past two weeks and have gone (4-1-1) recently with wins over Elkhart, Adams, Valparaiso, and Plymouth. The girls also competed in two tough games, versus Chesterton and Goshen, where they more or less dominated both games letting up unluckily, late goals that led to a loss and tie.
This stretch of games started on the road to Elkhart where they put forth a great showing with a hat trick from Eliana Lang and two more from each Zeta Nunemaker and Meg Baxter. Shea Anderson and the defensive line held down the back leading the girls to a 7-0 victory over the Lions. The team then was back in action at Chesterton where they seemed to dominate all game but an unfortunate late free-kick put them behind giving them the loss. The girls then played at home on (9/6) with a hard-fought battle against Adams where they won 4-0 with goals by Baxter, who had 3, and Lauren Frick, who had 1.
The team then hopped back on the bus and headed west again this time for Valparaiso. The Valpo game ended in a tough 1-0 victory for SJGS because of a penalty kick goal by Meg Baxter. Then back at home, the girls had an upsetting tie to Goshen where the team really dominated the game with captain Baxter having 14 shots but just 1 goal and a blocked penalty, while the Goshen goalie put up an incredible 17 saves.
The girls then wrapped up this stretch with a fabulous 8-0 win against Plymouth on the 13th. Meg Baxter led the scoring with another hat trick, Greta Chadwell had 2, Frick had 1 and contributed 3 assists, and Maura Green and Paige Goben had one each. Alex Choinacky held the shut-out in goal. Overall the team has certainly picked up their performance and hopes to continue strong.
