Fall is here, St. Joe, so I’ve come up with a list of activities to do this season.
First, the staples: apple picking, pumpkin carving, and haunted houses.
There are many places to go apple picking that aren’t too far away, depending on where you live of course. Lehmans and Garwood are a couple of the popular apple picking locations around here. You can pick your favorite type of apples with a group of friends or go with your family and enjoy the fall weather while it lasts. Maybe you will even find a new favorite apple type!
Going to a pumpkin patch is another fun activity to do with friends and family. Whether you carve, paint, or simply decorate with your pumpkins, it’s fun to pick out your favorite from the patch and struggle to carry it back to your car. Thistleberry Farm and Matthys Farm are two of the most popular pumpkin patches in town. If you need a new pumpkin carving or painting idea for this year, try making a set/matching pumpkins with your friends. Or, if you are carving, have a big pumpkin eating a smaller one.
The time honored tradition of haunted houses in fall and especially for Halloween can not be forgotten about. Niles haunted house is definitely the most popular one in our area, but Legend park is another option. Though they aren’t for everyone, haunted houses can be a fun way to celebrate spooky season! Watching your friends jump and scream while you are chased through mysterious rooms, who wouldn’t love that right?
Some other ideas include: movies, baking, and pottery painting.
Whether you are a horror movie person, or a Gilmore Girls fanatic, we all have our favorite things to watch during the fall season. And if you don’t, now’s the perfect time to find a new favorite movie or show for the season. Hocus Pocus, With Honors, Enola Holmes and Harry Potter are a few non-horror movie suggestions to watch from a pile of blankets.
Baking is a classic activity all year round, but in fall you get some of the best desserts. Apple and pumpkin pies are must haves, but oatmeal chocolate chip cookies and banana bread are good for the season too. Nothing beats some good music while baking something warm and fresh as you escape the chilly weather.
Painting pottery can be another fun thing to do for fall. The Pigeon and the Hen has a new fall collection of pottery from statues to plates. At the Pigeon and the Hen, you choose what ceramic piece you would like to paint, and then you can choose which paint(acrylic or glaze) and colors to use. It’s a fun way to be creative and you can do it right in downtown South Bend!
Be sure to take part in some of these fall activities this year!
