The varsity boys team against Marian’s was not a game to miss! This might have been the closest game of the season. First off our boys’ starting lineup was: Andrew Yergler (1) as our goalie, Jackson Risk (2), Samuel Harshman (4), Sebastian Vogel (6), Emanuel Olarte-Ortiz (7), Kai Lulic (11), Nery Garcia-Castillo (17), Adrian Raygoza (20), Sean Blackburn (22), Murphy Wiginton (23) and Rockne Horvath (26).
As the game started Saint Joe made sure to have possession of the ball, and kept it for the most part. Within the first 20 minutes of the game Marian had already made an attempt to their first goal, but ultimately missed it. Then in the middle of the first half Saint Joe had a free kick, but they also missed. With only a few minutes left in the game, the ref called a foul on Vincent Rodriguez (6) from the Knights. Almost right afterwards Ortiz made Saint Joe’s first goal and our boys’ supporters went wild. Then with only 18 seconds left of the first half, Harshman made an attempt at our second goal but Marian’s goalie saw what was coming and blocked it. Overall for this first half Saint Joe maintained possession of the ball throughout the game, so Marian had to have a really good defense and they definitely did.
To kick off the second half, Lulic started us on a good foot and made sure that Saint Joe still had possession of the ball this time around, as our team was itching for that second goal. As the game was starting Reid Gillis (5) from Marian’s team made an attempt at their first goal, and it was a close one, but our goalie made a great block. Then again, not even 5 minutes later, Eli Moody (31) tried with a second attempt at a goal and again our goalie was letting them know he was not there to mess around and blocked the attempt. As the game went on, the ball was in no teams possession but mostly back and forth. Then with only 8 minutes left in the game, Michael Boepple (30) made Marian’s first goal. As 6 minutes passed the whole crowd thought that would be it, and the game would end in a tie, but Boepple shocked them as he made Marian’s second goal within the last 2 minutes. Right then and there that’s when we all truly knew the game was finished and we were left with our end result. Overall Saint Joe put up a really good fight, but Marian had the luck.
