Have you ever heard of the elective, student media? Most have, as it’s shown every morning on announcements. On the announcements there are videos posted that include news of sports, the do’s and don’ts of Saint Joe, and just fun videos shown through to the school at the end of first period. These videos are all made by the student media class.
The student media class consists of a group of student split into 3 groups. Each group either has a video, show or article due and everyday rotate to what they didn’t have the day before.
Another thing the student media class does is write articles for the Saint Joe Square. These articles can range from an album review, to covering various world events, to talking about a new way to study effectively. On the Saint Joe Square, many topics are covered so the author(s) have a wide array of things to write about, while being able to choose on top of it.
The last thing a student media participant does is go on show. There are 2 people who anchor on announcements and say the script to the school, while adding transitions into the videos shown. The other members of their group have to do the audio for the mics, or flip slides for the anchors to read off of.
This may all seem like a lot, but it is very easy to get the hang of all the different things you need to do and the work load is very manageable, as you always have all class to edit, write, or practice the show. The teacher, Mr. DePauw, does a good job of mentoring students into the subject and providing flexibility on assignment ideas.
So remember to consider taking student media as your next elective!
