Saint Joe falls to tough Penn team
October 11, 2020
Saint Joe came into Friday’s match up looking for a big NIC win and to boost their confidence. The Indians continued to run their new offense. They were hoping to have it work better than it did last week against Elkhart as the result of adding a few plays to the new offense.
The Indians started off the game with the ball and mounted a big drive. Matt Eck found freshman Alex Ortiz for a 60 yard pass. The drive ended in Asante Anglin scoring a 1 yard touch down run.
Penn came right back and tied the game at 7. Alex Ortiz then had a 86 yard touchdown run to put the Indians up 14-7 as Saint Joe appeared to be gaining confidence. Unfortunately, Saint Joe then had several costly turnovers that turned into Penn touchdowns. Penn’s Junior running back Alec Hardict had a big game scoring 5 touchdowns and amassing 315 yards running. Penn led 28-14 at half and Saint Joe was looking for a comeback.
The Saint Joe defense came out and forced Penn into 3rd down and 30. That momentum disappeared when Saint Joe had a blown coverage and Penn threw a 34 yard touchdown pass. Suddenly Saint Joe was down big and they struggled to move the ball in the second half. Saint Joe ended up mustering just 1 touchdown in the second half which was a 16 yard touch down run by Asante Anglin. The Indians look to pick up a big win in their last home game of the season against Culver next week.
