Maybe you’ve heard of someone refer to the last few months of each year as the “Season of Giving.” There’s various reasons as to why it is called this and why it is so important. The months of November and December are some of the busiest times of the year. Thanksgiving and Christmas are creeping up quickly and there are many things that are done and celebrated prior to the arrival of these holidays.
Thanksgiving is a time to reflect on your life and think about what you are thankful for. Many people spend this time with their family, friends, and loved ones. There are also many people who are struggling with family, relationships, and financial needs. This time of year is used to help raise awareness towards people who are less fortunate and also used to lend a helping hand to people who need it most. For example, Saint Joe High School holds a food drive through H.O.P.E. club that helps raise money for families who are unable to afford a thanksgiving meal. Small acts like this can help benefit people in the community and give them a sense of love, care, and generosity. (Hence the statement “Season of Giving”)
Christmas is the next big holiday in the span of these two giving months. Christmas is a world wide holiday commemorating the birth of Jesus Christ. During this time families and friends take part in buying gifts (just as God gave us the gift of Jesus) for the people they care about while also spending time with one another. This is to show their love and admiration for each other through words, gifts, and actions.
Giving is something that is able to be done by every person across the globe. It doesn’t have to be with money or gifts, it can be done with your heart. We are called to serve one another in any way we can.. so these last few months of the year are a time where we focus in on charitable acts and finding different ways to give.
These two major holidays play a hug role into why these last fews months are referred to as the “Season of Giving” or the “Most Wonderful Time of The Year”. Our hearts grow fonder during this time, faith is made stronger, and people show what it means to care about their communities.
