The movie Five Nights at Freddy’s directed by Emma Tammi was first announced in 2015 and didn’t get released til recently in 2023. The movie is about a man named Mike Schmidt, a single guardian who looks after his little sister Abby. The movie follows Mike as he fights to prove himself to be a reliable guardian for Abby, while also trying to uncover who kidnapped his little brother over a decade ago. He, being threatened with losing custody of his sister, takes up a job as a night guard at the abandoned Freddy Fazbear’s Pizzeria. While he spends his first night on the job, he realizes the late shift at Freddy’s won’t be so easy to make through.
In the movie Mike spends, ironically, five nights at Freddy’s, but he spends better half of three nights sleeping. Mike’s dream during his first night introduces the connection between the pizzeria and Mike’s childhood trauma of his little brother, but they didn’t build on this in an interesting way until the climax of the movie.
The plot follows Mike’s aunt, Jane, attempting to secure custody of Abby for herself, but it ultimately cooks up to being a dead end storyline that fizzles out. One thing to note is that aunt Jane was a new character to the FNAF franchise, created solely for the purpose of this movie.
One thing that surprised many people was that the movie was not as scary as expected. The animatronics get quirky at night, but not in the expected way. They didn’t roam the halls, lurk in doorways or laugh in the shadows.
The movie was good and lived up to many franchise fans, though it did confuse and displease many watchers who were not fans. Overall there are many good reviews and the movie ultimately lived up to majority’s expectations.
