Many people remember the historic and, at times frustrating, process to elect the Speaker of the House last January that ended after fifteen rounds of voting – finally declaring that Republican Kevin McCarthy would be the Speaker of the House. If 2023 had not been historic enough already, Kevin McCarthy was recently ousted as Speaker of the house this October and the entire process to select a new Speaker began again
After failed attempts by Steve Scalise, Tom Emmet, and Jim Jordan during the three weeks that the Speaker position was vacant, the House of Representatives finally halting the legislative gridlock that had prevented any new laws being introduced.
What looked like would potentially be another period of indecision amongst the House ended with Congress electing 51 year old Louisiana Republican Congressman Mike Johnson.
Johnson has been in the House of Representatives since he was elected back in 2016. Since then he has served in leadership positions among the Republican party and the House Judiciary Committee along with many other committee positions.
Outside of his life as a politician Johnson has four kids and is very involved with his faith though not a lot is known about his personal hobbies or life.
