Last month, many students participated in the dress-down day, but rather than paying a dollar, they donated a package of diapers. While one package of diapers seems minimal, each diaper is largely impactful for the community. The diapers collected on Friday were donated to the Women’s Care Center, a nonprofit organization extremely close to the Saint Joe community.
Diapers are just one aspect of the Women’s Care Center – their reach is far wider than this.
The Women’s Care Center assists women with unexpected pregnancies to bring another life into this world. This is aligns perfectly with the mission of our school – since respecting the dignity of life is a central aspect of Catholic social teaching. Many women with unexpected pregnancies lack support either financially, educationally, or medically. The Women’s Care Center was established to ease these worries and make the process of motherhood easier. The center provides parenting classes, making learning accessible for new mothers. Along with these classes, the women are able to take home an item of baby clothing, baby food, wipes, or diapers. All of these things that the women take home are presented to the center by donations by the community, which is where Saint Joe plays an instrumental role.
The Women’s Care Center is run entirely on donations, making community support vital. They take anything a mother or baby might need for the family along with monetary donations – such as those provided by the Saint Joe High School Diaper Drive Please keep this in mind as you come across extra diapers, baby clothes, or baby food, as the Center is always looking for donations.
So students, next year at the diaper drive, remember that the women and babies in our community are counting on us!
