First piece of advice: do not attempt to fight a bear. But when has common sense stopped anyone, so for those brave enough to wish to challenge one of the largest predators in North America, here’s some things that you should know:
There are three types of bears you could possible wrestle here in the good ole’ USA: a Brown bear, a black bear, or maybe if you like the cold enough, a polar bear.
If any of you prospective bear wrestlers know anything about Polar bears, They are the strongest carnivore on land, and clocking in at around your height (5.3ft) up to 1600 lbs, the polar bear makes the ideal sparring partner, provided you wish to never had a second match, or any match ever again…because you will lose- I’d recommend not fighting polar bears. Too big, too mean, one even stole my bag of chips once (not actually true).
The second contestant is the grizzly bear, or less specifically the brown bear, is another bold contestant to match your mettle against, weighing in at around 9o0 lbs. and 8 feet in length, to state the brown bears are big would be like saying that Mount Everest is a “small hill.” Brown bears, are excellent runners reaching speeds of up to 35mph. Also known to be highly aggressive and will attack without provocations, especially if there’s a cub nearby, so if you wish to wrestle a brown bear, You’ll probably get your wish when you find one. However if you find yourself on the backfoot (or simply were unfortunate to encounter one and are not a bear wrestler) advice here: climb trees, Brown bears, identifiable by their sloping shoulders, and large forehead (they look like me without coffee) rarely climb trees, they can so if it does, well you’re out of luck, but much like an apathetic senior, they don’t want to. So that makes climbing your best bet to not become human lunchmeat.
The final contestant, and the best of the bunch for wrestling, the black bear. (only) averaging 5.5ft, and 500 lbs they’re much closer in size to you, that is to say, they have claws and and teeth, however, black bears are mostly solitary and prefer to avoid people, which does make challenging them more difficult, however, they’re known to be friendly(-ish), so you could befriend a black bear, and wrestle it, which is probably your best bet. They’re like a friend who will only maybe seriously hurt you, but I mean like most people, they can be won over with food, so there’s that.
In conclusion, wrestling a bear is dangerous and probably shouldn’t be done. However, if you wish to do so, wrestle a black bear, it’s your best chance of living to tell about it.
