As most people know, Saint Joseph High School retired their age old nickname, “Indians”, just last school year. This year, the student body and a selected committee are tasked with naming a new and improved mascot that incites school spirit and promotes inclusivity. The mascot is expected to be fierce, representative of our school’s faith, and depict an animal rather than a person.
In the words of the school, “Saint Joseph High School seeks a new mascot that better represents the student body and school community. The new mascot shall honor the tradition and history of Saint Joe; be an image that everyone can rally around; increase school spirit and pride, and align with Catholic values.”
The process of choosing a mascot is not yet finished, but it began in October in partnership with local marketing firm J2 in order to make it as seamless as possible and ultimately to ensure that the new image of the schools mascot is one that is pleasing to the eye and that can become meaningful to the students at Saint Joe High School.
Just recently, the final three mascot possibilities were released to alumni and student body. The three options are The Saint Joe: Buffalo, Huskies, or Rams. Each mascot option has its own unique story that is outlined in the active feedback survey open to all who are affiliated with Saint Joseph High School, but especially the students. As we embark on this journey as a school community, we all have the same goal in common and that is to build with family.
The school looks to reveal the final decision about the mascot near the end of February.
