Sophia Claypool, A senior, Captain of the Cheer Team, gives us a little insight into being on a competitive cheerleader as well as being on the Saint Joe team. Claypool tells us she plans on furthering her cheerleading career at Davenport University where she received a scholarship a few weeks ago and is very excited and already enjoys her new teammates .
Claypool has always been a part of a kids cheer team when she was younger so she has always had a passion for cheer. Claypool also started with gymnastics when she was around the age of 8 before eventually leaving the sport at 14 to pursue cheerleading full time.
Sophia moved to this area her sophomore year all the way from Dallas Texas. She tells us it was a major adjustment especially with the weather and culture being completely different. When she moved, she joined Allstar cheer by trying out for Indiana Ultimate where she has continued ever since. She has enjoyed her time in Indiana and keeps her very busy with many different competitions around the US.
Claypool’s coaches and teammates would describe her as an uplifting, positive, and responsible athlete. Claypool manages to stay positive by going back and watching her good routine runs or competitions. Seeing those videos remind her how strong the team is and help her bounce back when bad days happen. She tries to manage to stay positive even after a hard practice or a bad run.
Claypool is excited about the opportunity to pursue cheerleading at Davenport College next year.
