With Valentine’s day coming up right around the corner, it’s a time for love, laughter, and romance. Valentine’s day originated around 270 A.D but didn’t get declared the holiday of love until many years later. It originally was not a holiday having to do with romance until the 1400’s. So, with that being said and the romantic activities, festivities, and traditions happening next week. Here are some ways to celebrate Valentine’s day with friends and family or by yourself.
The first suggestion is to attend the Notre Dame Sonnet Fest. This day of many various writers’ sonnets being recited is definitely an informative and educational way to spend Valentine’s day. During Sonnet Fest, you get the chance to hear 154 Shakespearean Sonnets by members of our own community. This spectacular pass time will be performed by “Sonnet Man” on February 14th, at 5 p.m at the Duncan Student Center.
Another way to spend Valentine’s day is to treat yourself to a movie. There are many interesting films coming out on February 14th. Some films for example are Madame Web, Bob Marley; One love, and What About Love and many more. All of these films are expected to be sensational films, and there’s nothing better than watching a great film!
If you’re not up to go out to the movies, another suggestion is to treat yourself to your favorite things. Whether that’s chocolates, binge watching a series or having a self care day. It’s great to spend time on yourself and appreciate all the good in your life.
Lastly, enjoy a night hanging out with friends and family. Although at first it doesn’t sound appealing because Valentine’s day is perceived as a romantic holiday. Valentine’s day as a whole is about celebrating and appreciating loved ones, and not necessarily always romantically. Spending time with friends and hosting galen-tines or get together is a great way to cure FOMO (fear of missing out). Not only that but hanging out with the people you love is a great way to get your mind off of whatever’s going on around you.
