Any Saint Joe Hockey Fan that has been around the program has known the last name Tirotta. Many fans might know two older Tirotta boys that used to wear the Saint Joe Hockey Jersey, but now Anthony Tirotta (known by Tony) is making a name for himself on the ice.
Tirotta started playing hockey at a young age, inspired by his older brothers. He played in the Irish Youth Hockey League on the Irish Rover Travel Teams and is a 4 year letterman for the Hockey team. Tirotta has recorded 5 goals and 3 assists for a total of 8 points in the Michiana High School Hockey League, however his goals and assists have come in big moments to tie and win games. One of these goals was the game winning goal against Penn to send the team to the City Semi Finals.
Tirotta was voted in as Co-Captain for this hockey season and has been a leader on and off the ice. He showed his grit and toughness this season by playing through several injuries (including broken bones) that even earned him an article in the South Bend Tribune. The teams hopes came up short in the City Tournament losing in the semi finals, but the season in Tirotta’s eyes are not over yet.
Tirotta has high hopes for the team going into the state tournament, stating that “We have the talent to make a run in this thing, we just need to come together and execute.” He plans to attend Indiana University and study business next year.
