You may have recently noticed a new questionable drink at Starbucks called the Oleato. The Oleato is a drink that began in Sicily, Italy when Starbucks founder Howard Schultz was introduced to the Mediterranean custom of having a spoonful of olive oil everyday. As he sipped his morning coffee, he was inspired to try the two together. There he found an unexpected coffee that was enhanced with a lush and velvety flavor. Infused with Partanna extra virgin olive oil, the Oleato is more than a drink. The sophisticated flavor of Oleato beverages reawakens the senses with a new and luxurious experience that must be tasted to be believed.
There are two different Oleato beverages, one is a hot latte and the other is an iced shaken espresso. The Oleato caffe latte is created with the blonde espresso roast, a light roast that is smooth and subtly sweet, it is also combined with oat milk and infused with one press of Partanna extra virgin olive oil to create a velvety smooth, deliciously lush latte. The iced drink, the Oleato shaken espresso, is combined with toffee nut syrup and oat milk, topped with Oleato golden foam, a vanilla sweet cream cold foam that is infused with one press of Partanna extra virgin olive oil. Each Oleato drink is made with exactly one spoonful of Partanna olive oil, a type of extra-virgin olive oil made in Italy by Oleificio Asaro dal 1916. Additionally, olive oil and coffee do both have health benefits, but some people say the two ingredients combined can lead to stomach issues and discomfort.
Following its debut in Italy in February 2023, Oleato beverages are now available in all U.S. Starbucks company-operated and licensed stores, such as those in grocery stores, airports and college campuses. Starbucks Reserve locations in the U.S. also serve a unique lineup of Oleato beverages and offer an exclusive tasting experience.
