In honor of Black History Month, I decided to review the movie Hidden Figures, to me personally this film is really underrated, only because not so many people know of it, it was released on January 6th, 2017, so a couple years ago.
February is Black history month, a month dedicated to honoring the brave African American men, women, and children who fought so hard for freedom during the civil rights movement, this film is based on a true story, it is about three African American women who lived during the Jim crow era, a period in time where segregation was legal and black people were discriminated against by white people, these three women named Kathrine, Dorothy, and Mary are all exceptionally bright and all three of them get accepted to work at NASA, but during their time their the faced many challenges and obstacles, such as the obvious would be racism and sexism, back in the 1950-1960’s only men were allowed to work and women remained as housewives, and at NASA only white men were the ones working and in charge.
This movie depicts how life was for Kathrine, Dorothy, and Mary and how they made history, Taraji P Henson who is a famous actress starred as the main character of the movie Kathrine, and personally I think she did an amazing job playing her. Dorothy was played by another well known actress Octavia Spencer, who just like Taraji played her role well and had a great sense of humor, and finally Mary was played by another famous lady, Janelle Monàe who is known not for acting but for singing, she did a wonderful job and was my favorite character from the movie. In all Hidden Figures is a tremendous film and it is worth watching, we as a nation must not forget about these three women who paved the way not only for women of color but for people with different backgrounds everywhere, they taught us the important of never giving up and going after your passion, I would rate this film a 10/10 and would most certainly watch it again.
