On February 15 Iowa’s guard Caitlin Clark made NCAA history in a 106-89 win over Michigan as she broke the record for career points scored in women’s college basketball. Despite needing just 8 points to break the former Washington guard Kelsey Plum’s record of 3527 career points, she went above and beyond and dropped 49 points on the Wolverines, not only setting the women’s NCAA career scoring record at 3569 points, but also breaking the Iowa single game scoring record previously set at 48 points by Megan Gustafson. “I appreciate what you do for the game, much respect and love! See you at the next level, hopefully sooner than later,” Plum commented on Clark’s record.
It took Caitlin Clark just 2 minutes and 12 seconds to reach the 8 points she needed to break the record. Her record shot was in stylish fashion as she shot a three pointer from the left side of the logo. “You all knew I was going to shoot a logo 3 for the record,” Clark said. After her 3528th point, there was a stoppage of play to celebrate the historic moment.
Clark was involved in 76 of the Hawkeye’s 106 points that game, scoring 49 points and assisting 13 times.
Pete Maravich currently holds the Iowa scoring record which he set at 3667 career points. Clark has her eyes set on breaking that record this season with 3 games left on their schedule and the NCAA tournament in their sights.
