As the third quarter comes to an end and the fourth quarter begins students must concentrate on keeping their grades up. However, this is easier said than done, so how can you do this?
Here are five tips for your academic success:
- Work on your time management skills. You must be able to compartmentalize your subjects and set aside time for each one to be able to complete them. Turning in assignments is one of the best ways you can keep your grades up aside from things that require more of your attention and focus like quizzes and tests. Managing your time will get you into the habit of being organized and punctual which are great qualities for the future.
- Make a list of goals (big and small). Having aspirations to finish with all Bs and As is wonderful, however, those are big goals that need small goals to accomplish. Big goals take a while to check off, whereas smaller, weekly goals can be checked off often allowing you to see the progress you are making and motivate you more towards achieving your big goal. These lists could be as little as writing down your homework for the night and crossing it off as you go.
- Use your flex time! Teachers give you flex so you have the opportunity to ask questions on homework or topics in class, but also so that you don’t have to do your homework at home. Be efficient and use your time well (tying back to tip #1).
- Build good study habits whether that means being alone or forming a study group of like-minded people who also want to ace that test tomorrow. Studying in numbers can help keep you focused and the collaboration may help you discover a new way to solve that math problem you have been stuck on!
- Get rest. Everyone says that they are tired in school, and therefore take naps or decide to check out during lessons. This is hindering your learning. Why not put your phone away around 10 o’clock to then let your body decompress and fall asleep? This way you are energized for the day and ready to learn.
Good luck in these last two quarters! You got this.
