Nadia Firestone is in Saint Joseph’s AP Art class and has been painting/involved with art since only freshman year. However, her breakout year was junior year when she decided to take art more seriously and paint a picture of her older sister. The outcome of this beautiful piece inspired her to take her artistic abilities further and challenge herself to produce more intricate pieces for her senior year.
Firestone’s sustained investigation (the theme of her artwork) is about teenage life and living beyond the bounds of your family. Her paintings radiate freedom and colors of summer that are somewhat nostalgic for high school life. Her favorite medium to paint with is gouache. It is a mixture of watercolor paint and acrylic paint with which she painted a picture of herself sitting outside on her porch looking at her phone with a beautiful sunset. This is her favorite painting that illustrates how teenagers tend to be encapsulated in their phones ignoring the world around them.
Other works of art that she has made include the inside look at a car ride, an array of lipglosses, herself hanging out of the window of the car, and a mirror picture of her friends getting ready for a night out. All of these demonstrate the life of a teenager with makeup all over our desks, late-night car rides, and hangouts with friends.
In addition to being in AP Art, Firestone is involved on the Saint Joseph volleyball team, Art Club, Unapologetically Beverly Club, and Best Buddies. And she plans to attend either IU Bloomington or Cincinnati for college to major in business!
