I recently watched Denis Villeneuve’s “Dune: Part 1”, released in 2021, and this movie was way better than I had anticipated, like, WAY better. From the moment I clicked played, I was unable to take my eyes away from the screen. No knowledge of the plot whatsoever before watching, or honestly what genre it was, and it had me engaged every second of the way. The cinematography was peak, the CGI was clean, the special/practical effects were done very, very well, and the acting was excellent.
Along with how well the editing and shooting was, the overall plot and storyline of this film was executed very nicely. I felt as if in every scene, an explanation of something, that no one in the audience would know, would be explained as to how it works and what it’s relevance is to the story, which almost everything that is shown in the frame has some kind of significance at some point in the film. I felt as if I were watching a clash between Star Wars, and a little Harry Potter or The Lord of the Rings, and I loved it.
In order for this film to have been as outstanding as it was, the film, its story and all the editing involved with it, is only as good as the actors and actresses who make the film feel as real as it looks. The cast for this film was perfect. I thought everyone portrayed their characters at their finest. Especially, Timothée Chalamet, who played Paul Atreides, Oscar Isaac, as Duke Leto Atreides, Rebecca Ferguson, as Lady Jessica, Josh Brolin, as Gurney Halleck, and Stellan Skarsgård, as Baron Vladimir Harkonnen. All had outstanding performances and I am very intrigued to see what lies ahead in the future of this franchise.
