Hello St. Joe! We all know March Madness is right around the corner, so it is time to fill those brackets out. It’s always tempting to pick the higher seeds, but the lower-seeded sleeper picks tend to be the clutch teams that can make or break your bracket. So, without further adieu, here are some potential sleepers and bracket buster teams to look out for this March Madness!
- NC State. Despite being an 11 seed, NC State is much better than this. Led by guard DJ Horne (16.9 ppg) and forward DJ Burns Jr., the Wolfpack have a little bit of everything and pack a punch in the paint. Their size is an advantage to look out for. Also, they just beat UNC in the ACC tournament, so they are flying into March Madness hot and ready.
- New Mexico. New Mexico is another 11 seed, yet again they are a team to look out for. The Lobos average a staggering 81.71 ppg, led by guard Jaelen House (16.1 ppg). Despite being an 11 seed, the Lobos have a net ranking of 22nd, meaning they compete at the level of 6 seeds. Plus, they play Clemson in the first round, who is potentially the worst 6 seed in the bracket, giving them a big advantage for the first round.
- James Madison. The Duke Dogs are coming into the tournament as a 12 seed, but upsets can happen people. James Madison has an astonishing 31-1 record, meaning they know how to win games. It also helps that they are top 10 in the nation in points per game, scoring an astonishing 84.4 points per game. They are led by guard Terrence Edwards Jr. (17.4 ppg), and are coming into the tournament having won their last 10 games, meaning they are on a roll. The Duke Dogs are poised to make a run in the tournament this year.
These are just a couple of the many teams that could pull off an upset this year. There is no saying what happens in March Madness, which is part of its appeal and excitement. But keep in mind these sleepers as you fill in your brackets St. Joe!
