This past weekend, the Saint Joe Boys Basketball team fought their way to state, by being the champions of sectionals, regionals and semi state. This took lots of consistent practice, focus, and hard work put into their time on the court. State is a very difficult thing to reach, and this is their first time making it to state since 1993!
These boys have had a long road to accomplish everything they have up until now. They have had to play against Marian and Clay throughout the sectionals round, in which they won 65 to 48 and 81 to 47. After passing sectionals, they made it to the regional rounds, where they played against John Glenn, beating them 53 to 38. Then, semi-state consisted of two more games to qualify for state. First was Peru, where we closely won, 88 to 80, and next was the Delta Eagles in an extremely close game full of adrenaline and nerves! After a triple overtime, the Saint Joe Huskies beat the Eagles, 44 to 41. Finally, they have reached every teams goal, to make it through many hoops to play at state. On March 30 at 6pm, the boys will compete against Scottsburg in the Gainbridge Fieldhouse in the 3A state championship.
Therefore, this year the Saint Joe Boys Basketball team have had an excellent season, with a final record of 20-9. The seniors are Jayce Lee, Jerry Barca, Brady Mansfield, and Tyler Brown, and the main coach is Eric Gaff, who all got an awesome finale to their senior season by each helping the team make their way to state!
