Recently, the Future Business Leaders of America Club traveled to Muncie for the Spring Leadership Conference. This three day competition had schools from all across Indiana competing in state business competitions that ranged from tests and presentations to role playing activities. Beyond that, however, there was so much more.
On Friday, the club traveled by bus down to Muncie. When they arrived, the team reviewed for a few hours over their tests. After the tests in the afternoon, on Friday evening, all the schools gathered together in the conference hall to be introduced to the State Officers, compete in Battle of the Chapters, and listen to a guest speaker. The schools that attended the conference included Adams, Peru, McKinsey, and Bishop Dwenger, to name a few. In Battle of the Chapters, three representatives from each school competed in a trivia contest. The questions ranged from pop culture, science, history, FBLA, and anything else you can think of. Saint Joe ended up moving onto the finals on Saturday, against Bishop Luers, but lost by one question.
Saturday involved the presentation and role play aspects of the competition. In the morning, all of the schools gathered for breakfast, and then broke off to practice and prepare for their upcoming presentations or activities. At the end of Saturday, the schools gathered again to witness the induction of the new State Officers, and to watch the Battle of the Chapters Championship. Later that night, there was a networking event that all of the competitors attended, in which they played games, mingled, and listened to music.
The final day, Sunday, involved a nice breakfast and award ceremony, where top seven in each event, whether presentations, role play, or tests, were awarded, and the first place received a medal. Every person on the Saint Joe team placed in at least one event.
Overall, it was an exciting, informing, and fun trip. As a senior and three year member of the club, I am very happy that I was able to finally attend and experience SLC. If you have any interest in business, I definitely recommend participating in this club and going on this trip.
