There are 68 teams that are in the March Madness tournament if you count the “First Four” games. There are some teams that you know before any conference play that they are going to get a bid to the tournament. On the other hand there are some teams that are on the edge of playing or not after not the committee comes together and picks the teams that should be in. There are differing opinions on who should have been in the tournament and who actually got in. With that being said here are the 3 biggest snubs for the March Madness tournament.
- Saint John’s- Saint John’s is part of the Big East and had a 20-13 record losing in the Big East Championship to UConn 90-95. This team deserved to be in with a solid conference record in a tough Big East this year with teams like UConn, Creighton, and Marquette. The only way they could have done better in the conference tournament would have been to beat what some people deem as the best team in college basketball.
- Oklahoma- Earlier in the Year Oklahoma was nationally ranked in the top 15 but after a few injuries and having a bad end of season they did not do well in the big 12 tournament and were ruled in the first four out. They had a pretty high NET ranking and it doesn’t make sense how teams like Virginia get in when Oklahoma lost to teams that were pretty good and did not have any huge upsets
- Indiana State- Most say that this is the biggest snub of the whole tournament and that is a very fair statement. With having a 29 Net ranking by the committee that is the highest rank to not get in the tournament. I believe that it is absolutely ridiculous that ISU does not get in this year. They could not have done anything better. They had a good record and their strength of schedule is as good as they were going to be able to get it. The NCAA also missed out on a huge marketing player with Robbie Avila. Not to mention that the MVC always has teams that have huge breakouts in the tournaments. I don’t understand how a team like Virginia or Colorado who are ranked in the 50’s for NET get in that just doesn’t make sense.
