Every month, Saint Joe has three new Community Award Winners. Let’s see who they are for the month of March! The female award winner is Dani Graham, the male award winner is Elliot Mark, and the faculty and staff award winner is Mr. Mike McCarthy.
Dani Graham is described as inclusive and always trying to build up the community within our school. She has much spirit by cheering her teammates on and is very competitive on the court when playing volleyball and tennis. Dani has been on the volleyball team for four years as well as the girl’s tennis team. Also, she was the freshman class president and is the current president of the “Best Buddies Group,” as well as being a part of both mascot communities and gave good insight when trying to choose a mascot.
Elliot Mark is described as very respectful, friendly, mature, kind, a leader and many more positive adjectives. He is known for always putting others first and cares very deeply about his friends and family, and works hard to make Saint Joe a better place. Elliot is a person of faith who serves as an elector and Eucharistic minister within the school, prayer leader, and retreat team member. Elliot plays lacrosse and is the student body secretary. He has been in every theater production throughout his four years at Saint Joe and even played main roles in both the musical and play this year.
Mr. McCarthy is described as helpful, caring, positive, and the “G.O.A.T.” He is always well prepared for class and pushes students to do their very best while still understanding the struggles that happen throughout life outside of school. One student said that “he believes in his students no matter what,” and another said “this teacher made me come out of my comfort zone and try a sport.” I might also add that a third student said “he checks in to make sure we are okay!” Through his dedication, work ethic, and high standards, Mr. McCarthy earned a bachelor’s degree at Notre Dame and taught for two years at Clay High School before coming to work at Saint Joe in 2006. While being the head chair in the social studies department and the head coach of both the girl’s and boy’s cross country and track teams, he is more than deserving of this award.
