The Grammy-nominated R&B sensation SZA at last dropped a song she premiered in a commercial following her Grammy attendance. She may have sang about pursuing violent payback on an ex-lover on her immensely popular most recent album.
This time, she gives us to a live performance of her song “Saturn,” which has also been released as an instrumental, acapella, and live version. This time, singing about wanting to flee your gloomy planet and instead find happiness on another, she uses a far lighter and more upbeat tone. SZA carefully blended the prominent poetic lyrics of her “SOS” album with the dreamy R&B feeling of her “Ctrl” album to create “Saturn.”
This talented woman never fails to captivate her audience with her soft demeanor and angelic voice.
She sings about how unhappy she was with the love she had on this current planet in the beginning of the first verse. She suggests that there may be a connection between her mental health and the chorus before moving into it. The chorus then goes on to discuss just how wonderful life would be on Saturn. As the story draws to a close, she reflects over the concept of karma and if it is worthwhile to strive for happiness. Until at last, on Saturn, fantasizing about a better life—in the traditional “grass is always greener on the other side” sense—to end.
You get the impression that you are traveling through space to reach Saturn because of the celestial noises.
