The boys and girls Track and Field team competed this weekend at Hobart High School in Indiana. It was a multi-school meet against teams like Washington, Kankakee Valley, Hobart, Hammond Bishop Knoll, Griffith, Boone Grove, and East Chicago Central. The competitive atmosphere was a great introduction meet for the Saint Joe Huskies as it prepares them for the city meet next Thursday.
At Hobart, the boys track and field team came in 1st place overall at the meet, and the girls came in 3rd. Many impressive performances came from Luke Kaufhold – the MVP of the meet – winning both his races in the high hurdles and the low, Bill Imanene tying for first in long jump at 20 feet and 5 inches, Brady Farrell vaulting 13 feet and 9 inches -5 inches away from beating the school record- placing first in his event, and the boys 4×1 ran by Richard Halliburton, Ziare Tshimanga, Bill Imanene, and Sam Harshman winning the race. On the girls side, Paige Goben long jumped 16 feet and 3 inches placing second, the 4×4 relay placed second with Mitchell Carter, Sara Prokop, Lauren Legault, and Lainey Eder, and the 4×8 also showed an impressive performance placing second with Ella Trennery, Addy Farmer, Rebecca Anatolios, and Anna Hill. Many other performances did well this meet.
Tuesday the Track and Field team competes against Penn at Penn. This will be a long meet with many athletes and heats, but it will be just another good meet to prepare them for the competition they will see at City and Sectionals in the next couple weeks. Make sure to show your support and show out for these events!
