I was looking forward to watching Kung Fu Panda 4 with the return of Po with Jack Black as his voice. The first one came out when I was about 4 and was one of the first movie theatre movies I remember watching with my parents and the most delicious bucket of popcorn. The plot was still familiar as Po is working at a restaurant in the Valley of Peace with his biological and adoptive dads. Po is still the Dragon Warrior and is told that he has to appoint a new one and move on to be a spiritual leader. Po is searching for a replacement and ends up finding out Chameleon is posing as an old enemy of Po’s and can shape shift into anyone and get their skills just by a touch. Po takes off on a journey to take down Chameleon with a shifty fox named Zhen who is trying to steal from PO. After many battles with bandits and Chameleon, Po trusts Zhen to help and together they defeat Chameleon. In the end Po chooses Zhen as his replacement and they go on to train him.
Again, love the franchise. I grew up watching all of the Kung Fu Panda’s when they would come out and was happy this one did. Jack Black has such a wide range of voice talents that the comedy is heightened by his delivery. The franchise always delivers on happy/ sad moments like when Po’s dad saves him from death. They also deliver on really good easy to follow story line where it is possible to like this movie and follow along without watching the other three. The backgrounds are always detailed and everything was familiar which is a great continuation on the other films. I look forward to more of these as the ending was open to continue more films.
