Senior Molly Bellia continues to make a name for herself as she was recently awarded two more prestigious awards. Just this week Molly was awarded the Cato Memorial Scholarship and was also named the WHME- TV 46 Student Athlete of the Week.
The Cato Memorial Scholarship is based on academic performance, school and community involvement, character, sportsmanship, and citizenship. She shared that she had not known about the scholarship until she was told that she was nominated by Mr. Anthony and her coaches to receive this award. She also shared some of the history of the scholarship and explained that the scholarship is named after a former Commissioner who served the IHSAA for almost 20 years, and who believed in the value of high school athletics in developing students’ character.
As for the other honor, she was named WHME-TV 46’s Student Athlete of the Week which is an award given to two athletes, one male and one female, and they are honored and interviewed at another sporting event.
Molly also shared an update on the women’s tennis team and how they are doing so far this season. The tennis team recently traveled down to Jasper, Indiana where they were competing against two other ranked teams from Indiana as well as a team from Kentucky and the team won the invitational tournament. The team also took on Elkhart in their first home match of the year and won 5-0 as well as Penn tonight, April 18th, and beat the Kingsmen 5-0.
Finally, a big event coming up for the tennis team is the “Smash Cancer” match they play against Marian high school on May 1 at Leeper Park.
Make sure to congratulate Molly on her achievements and go support the tennis team!
