Hades, the hit rogue-like of 2018 by Supergiant Games, will be getting a sequel at on undisclosed date. However the developers have released the game to play testers in the community and are still currently accepting more. This was done with the first game as well and its purpose was to allow the community to comment and find things in the game that need improvement. Even though this is a dumbed down version of a small fraction of the game there is still a ton to compare with the original game.
First up there is the weapons. In Hades there were six weapons and each had around 3 different attacks each with their own uses as well as 1 universal attack between all weapons. In Hades 2 each weapon will have around 5 personalized attacks and two attacks shared by all weapons. As well these weapons now use a new resource called Magick which fuels the new weapons special attacks in different ways. It seems there are going to be 6 weapons in this game with two already very interesting weapons revealed for play testers to use.
Secondly there is the Boon system. The Boons in Hades were used to boost specific aspects of your characters during each of the games many “runs.” Just like in Hades 2 the Greek god’s bestowed these Boons on the character and this will remain true but there will be even more god’s that will appear in one’s run and each one will have new Boons to affect the new Magick abilities and weapons in the sequel.
And Thirdly is the designs. Everything in this play test version of the game looks much better then the original and the new character designs and redesigns have that iconic feel of the original game with the greater experience of the art team clearly showing.
All in all this game will surely live up to its predecessor and will likely surpass it in many ways. With the play test version now out one can expect around a 20 month wait from it’s release which is around the same time as Hades took to release after the play test version came out.
