On April 17, 2024, Saint Joe boys lacrosse played Marian in the Holy War. Rival schools going up against each other. Both teams started the first quarter strong with a 6-4 score by the end of the quarter.
Helman led the offense in the first quarter with three goals followed by Keegan Saratore and Ratigan who each scored one into the net. The defense was led by Varda, with an impressive five ground balls for this freshman. After a fierce first quarter from both teams, Saint Joe hoped to continue their momentum. Helmen scored once again and was then followed by Balint, although Keegan did not score he continued to have multiple shots on goal attempting to up the score again. At the end of the first half, the team led 8-5.
As the boys continued onto the next half with more energy than before, throughout the third quarter the boys continued to increase their lead. Scoring six goals this quarter, two by Ratigan while Helman, Haigh (his first of the season), Keegan, and Saratore followed close behind with one each. Custer hoped to score with the three shots taken on goal. While on defense Hall (goalie) allowed zero shots to be scored on the net, being a stone wall in the cage, ending the third quarter with a score of 14-5. Leading into the fourth quarter with a massive lead Saint Joe continued with the energy scoring three goals this quarter two from Balint and followed close behind by Helman who scored 1. Making the score 17-5, along with demonstrating strong offense, and defense followed up with defense. Speybroeck led the defense with three ground balls, as for Hall he again allowed no shots to be made. As the game came to a close Saint Joe rained victorious, Helman being the leading scorer of the game and naming Hall the athlete of the week for holding up the cage and allowing no goals for the entire second half.
