Hello St. Joe! With NBA playoffs going strong, the season is sadly coming to an end. This means that it is time to award the best players from this season. From rookie of the year to MVP, there are plenty of awards to be passed out, and the finalists were just released. Here they are!
- MVP Finalists: Luka Doncic, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, and Nikola Jokic
- My personal vote: Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. Perhaps I am biased because he seems like the underdog and the least likely to win the award. But I think in terms of most valuable player, Shai is the most valuable. If you remove him from the Thunder, they might not be in the playoffs, let alone the number 1 seed.
- Defensive Player of the Year Finalists: Bam Adebayo, Rudy Gobert, and Victor Wembanyama
- My personal vote: Victor Wembanyama. I also think Anthony Davis got snubbed by not being a finalist, but with him out of the picture, I think that the young rookie is the best defender in the league. It is not as exciting, as he will most likely win rookie of the year as well, but he is the best shot blocking center in the league. Plus, his agility and quickness make him a threat to guard all parts of the floor, not just the paint.
- Rookie of the Year Finalists: Chet Holmgren, Brandon Miller, and Victor Wembanyama
- My personal vote: Brandon Miller. I feel that Brandon Miller is the only actual rookie. Chet Holmgren was drafted last year, even if he was injured. And Victor Wembanyama has played professionally overseas, so he is not a rookie in the pros, just new to the NBA. So for the Rookie of the year, I think it should go to Brandon Miller.
These are just 3 of the award categories and my personal opinions. There are many more awards to be won, such as Most Improved or Coach of the Year, so be sure to stay tuned to the award shows starting April 23rd!
