Summer is quickly approaching and most people will likely spend it doing one of two things. Working a job or practically nothing at all. Although both of these things have their merits it will do very little nothing for the intellectual development of students. Especially those going into College, a whole new level of education, will want to keep their minds as sharp as they were during the school year. This article will provide a few things on can do over the summer break that will keep one’s mind at the peek of its ability.
The first is pretty simple, read a book every day for at least 2 hours. Without the pressure of homework and all the free time most people have during the summer getting in a lot of reading during the summer is much easier than it is during the school year. To get the most out of this though one should read a lot of genres ass well as reading levels. Only reading “for fun” books won’t do someone much good but mixing in some classics and deeper novels like the things we read in school will keep one entertained and mentally cultivated.
The second is to learn a new skill. Without the 8:15 to 3:15 day that students here live out during the school year one can substitute all the classes that don’t mesh with their tastes and instead learn how to do something that they are interested. As well learning a new skill can be helpful with the extra curricular activities that a student does in school.
The third is to attend a new type of camp. The colleges around South Bend hold a variety of camps that can help cultivate many parts of a students life. There is something for everyone amongst these camps: a week of fun, a college level course, or even a camp that helps one along their spiritual journey. Attending any of these camps is certainly a good idea for anyone wishing to add value to the summer months.
All in all there is plenty of ways for someone to add depth to their metal acuity over this upcoming summer. So make sure not to waste these months, but remember, have fun because another year of Math awaits you when you get back.
