Twisters (2024) is a movie where main character Kate Carter is haunted by her past experience with a tornado before getting convinced by her friend, Javi, to come back to her home town in Oklahoma. There she meets Tyler Owens, a good-looking media star who finds excitement in posting his storm chasing adventures. As competition arises between Cooper’s team and Owens’ team, feelings between the two personalities form as well. This action/thriller casts Glenn Powell as Tyler Owens, Daisy Edgar-Jones as Kate Carter, and Anthony Ramos as Javi.
This movie is a good watch when you’re wondering what to see in theaters. It brings back the excitement and thrills from the original Twister (1996) although it does introduce new characters and a new love story. It’s definitely not a movie that includes all “correct” information, but Twisters is a great movie to watch over again for a good action-packed show. I love how the director portrayed a good sense of post traumatic stress. Carter dealt with a terrible and traumatic event with a tornado, that would affect the rest of her life. Most movies don’t include this type of anxiety, but it’s important to have an idea of how to deal with this.
If I were to compare the originals Twister (1996) and the most recent (2024), I would say the recent take is a better watch. Although both movies are great, the 2024 Twisters shows on a deeper and more impactful level how tragic tornados can be. Tornados can be a huge disaster in the south, and can cause destruction across miles and miles of land. I believe that tornados are often overlooked because of how common they can be, but this movie represents that tornados are life-threatening. In the end, the movie Twisters (2024) is a movie I would definitely recommend to watch.
“My expectations for Twisters was high, and the movie exceeded my expectations. It’s one of my favorite movies I’ve seen in theaters,” says sophomore Evolette Williams.
