The Great American Bar Scene came out on July 4, 2024. Singer/songwriter Zach Bryan released this album following his single Pink Skies last November. The album includes 19 songs in total, and it is the 5th studio album released by the artist.
For some background, Zach Bryan began posting clips of himself singing his music online in 2015; however, he recorded his first full album DeAnn (his mother’s middle name) in 2019 with help from his friends in the Navy. Bryan enlisted when he was 17, however it did not stop his music career. His so-called “breakout hit” Heading South was in his next album Elisabeth, which really helped him to gain popularity and kick off his career. In October of 2021, Bryan received an honorable discharge from the Navy so that he could pursue his music career. He released a handful of singles before his first major studio album American Heartbreak. From there Zach Bryan’s career took off to becoming the major country music artist he is today.
Now back to the review. My personal favorite part about Bryan’s music is how he has some poetry songs, some slow and sad songs, and some more upbeat almost pop-rock songs. An example of his poetry is Lucky Enough, a similar idea to the Fear and Fridays spoken word poem that is the first song on his album Zach Bryan. This album is also similar to other albums in the way that he has many collaborations/features with other artists such as John Mayer and Bruce Springsteen.
Here is my top 10 from the album:
-
-
- Boons 6. Funny Man
- Bass Boat 7. The Way Back
- 28 8. American Nights
- Mechanical Bull 9. Northern Thunder
- Pink Skies 10. The Great American Bar Scene
-
Honorable Mention: Sandpaper (feat. Bruce Springsteen)
Now this is not to say that I don’t like the other songs on the album, I believe that the whole album from top to bottom is absolutely fantastic. I recommend it to anyone looking for something new to try.
