This year’s NFL draft featured an unusual amount of talent taken early in the first round. Headlined by the generational talent of Caleb Williams, the reigning Heisman in Jayden Daniels, and one of the best ACC quarterbacks of all time in Drake Maye. All three of these quarterbacks will be ones to watch as we start to kick off this upcoming NFL season.
Starting off with Caleb Williams, he is widely known as the unanimous number one overall pick. The 2022 Heisman trophy winner has been in the spotlight from a young age. He was a 5 star recruit out of high school and was pursued by just about every school in the country. He then committed to Oklahoma where he later followed his coach to USC. Despite winning the Heisman in 2022, Williams never was able to make the College Football Playoff. After His stellar career in college, he went Number 1 overall to a very promising Bears team. Be on the lookout for a big season from him.
Jayden Daniels went from a struggling true freshman to a Heisman trophy winner. Jayden Daniels coming out of high school was a top 100 recruit and played for Arizona State as a true freshman. After struggling his first year, he decided to get a fresh start and transferred to LSU, where he later thrived. His first year at LSU was good but nothing compared to his next. He went out in 2023 and had one of the best seasons by a quarterback in the SEC ever – putting him with other names like Cam Newton, Joe Burrow, and Tim Tebow. Jayden Daniels was drafted to the Washington Commanders to help get them out of QB purgatory where he will definitely look to turn things around.
Lastly Drake Maye, the Home Town hero. As a 5 star recruit, Drake Maye had offers from the top schools in the country, but he decided to stay home and live on the Maye legacy in North Carolina where his brother also played basketball. While at North Carolina, Drake broke the records for all time passing yards and passing touchdowns for the Tar Heels. This propelled him up draft boards and he ultimately became the 3rd overall pick to the Patriots. He is set to fill in big shoes and one day look to bring the Super Bowl back to Foxborough.
The future is bright for the NFL and these rising stars, who are looking to make a bang as they all are trying to make a name for themselves in this new chapter of their careers.
