This week is Holy War Week! Holy War Week is the biggest week of the year for fall sports. Anticipation is very high for the players as well as all the fans. There is a lot of pride in these games in every sport, and we have football, girls soccer, and boys soccer, volleyball, and girls tennis all playing Marian this week.
At 7pm on Friday, the football team takes on the Knights away at Marian. Last year, St. Joe fell to Marian 10-16, but they hope to bounce back this year. The team is coming off of a big win against New Prairie last week, and is poised to give Marian a good game. The JV team also plays Marian on Saturday at 10am.
At 7pm on Tuesday, the boys soccer team plays Marian at home at the North Fields. Last year, our boys took home the victory, winning 2-0 and want to keep the title of the Holy War for another year.
On Wednesday at 7pm, the girls soccer team also plays Marian but they play at Marian. The team’s record is 3-4 currently, 1-1 in the NIC, and hope to beat Marian on their home turf. Last year, the girls beat Marian 2-0.
The Volleyball team plays the knights at 7:30 pm on Thursday at Marian. Last year, St. Joe won in 4 sets, winning 3-1. This year, the Huskies hope to keep that momentum of last year and beat Marian again.
Boys tennis takes on Marian at 4:30 on Wednesday. The tennis team is led by captains Jack Halfpenny and Nick Nguyen.
The Holy War has been a very long lasting tradition in South Bend, with the tradition easily stretching all the way back before any of the current students were born. When you play a sport at St. Joe, you know that the biggest game of the year with the most fans and the highest stress level is always playing Marian. Let’s win them all this week!
