What is Esports and why should you join? Esports are video games that are played competitively around the world and here at Saint Joe we have one of those teams!
We play against many other schools in Indiana and the game that we play competitively is Super Smash Brothers Ultimate for the Nintendo Switch. We have 3 teams that will play every week, 2 club teams and a Varsity team with The Smash Bros. competitive rules set for Indiana are, 3 stock crew battles (the game mode in which there are 16 stocks total, split between four players)with 4 players on each team, no items, no final smash meter, limited stage selection, and no stage hazards, Steve from minecraft is the only banned character in the matches. This way the matches are dependent on skill and not luck.
This year we have many new and returning players. Each of our teams has 6 members, 4 players and 2 substitutes in case one of our main players can’t play. The returning players can help the new players learn how to play better each meeting. Our moderators are Mrs. Coleman and Mr. Gish, we meet in room 204. I was able to go from knowing practically nothing to being on the varsity team in one just year!
Our varsity team was top 10 in the state last year. Saint Joe has been playing Super Smash Brothers Ultimate against other schools for 5 years and we don’t plan on stopping soon. We just finished our pre-season matches against other Schools and all 3 of our teams have won, our real matches have started on September 25th. It’s a fun club to join and play games with friends! You can join next season at the start of the second semester.
