St. Joe’s girls’ soccer team is making waves this season, showcasing grit and determination on the field. With a combination of seasoned players and rising talent, the team has been pushing hard in every match, setting their sights on a strong finish. Currently our St Joe girls are ranked #1 in the 2A conference, with a record of 8 to 4 so far. The girls are looking towards sectionals Starting on october 7, with only three more games left in the regular season. St Joseph just picked up their fifth victory in a row at home to remain undefeated on their home field.
Some of St Joe’s most notable wins include a close finish in a shootout against rival Marian High School. Shea Anderson, St Joe’s goalie, recorded 2 saves leading the Huskies to victory with a score of 4 to 2 in penalties. This was a turning point for the Huskies season, as they expect to see Marian again in sectionals. St Joseph also had remarkable wins against a good Valparaiso Team with a score of 3 to 2 and against Munster just this past week 2 to 0.
St Joe senior Lauren Frick ( #19), has had an outstanding season recording 8 goals and 5 assists so far this year. Senior Shea Anderson(#0) has 58 saves and 5 shutout games. Freshman, Lauren Hickey(#4), has stepped up as well with 2 goals and 4 assists this season. Carly Daughtery and Lily Gerard have 3 goals each.
The team started the season with a tough schedule but has grown immensely in the face of adversity. St Joseph’s offense has shown notable improvement in particular due to an outstanding coaching staff. Head Coach Phil DePauw, Goalie Coach Cat Edmonds, Assistant Coach Green and Forward Coach Caroline Edmonds.
