Last week was quite the week for the boys soccer team as they knocked off Penn in a penalty kick shootout last Thursday 1-1 (4-3 PK). The game winning goal came from none other than Jackson Risk who had an outstanding game and some big time saves from Andy Yergler as the Huskies brought home the win.
The game started out evenly throughout the first 20 mins of the game. It was back and forth but you could feel Penn had the momentum. Midway through the 1st half there was a free kick against St. Joe and Penn capitalized on it making the score 1-0 in the first half.
As the 2nd half began though all the momentum shifted to the Huskies side. Much of the 2nd half was played on the offensive side for St. Joe with many chances but still no score. Until finally Tony Wang had the game tying goal and ran to the student section after his terrific goal making the score 1-1. Overtime did not have much action during the two 7 minute halves beside an amazing save by Romeo Clark saving the Huskies the game and taking it into penalty kicks.
The PK shootout was quite the rollercoaster as the Huskies and Kingsmen both made their first two penalty kicks. Both teams made and saved PKs causing it to have the 6th men of each team take the shot. Andy made an amazing save as he guessed right creating a game winning goal chance for Jackson Risk. Risk went bottom right securing the game for the Huskies and the students rushed the field going crazy over the great win.
There is now a 3 way tie in the NIC but the boys can clinch the conference with a win over Elkhart this week on Friday 10/4. Come support the guys!! Have a great day Saint Joe.
