“Do you like Scary Movies?” Out of all the popular Halloween Traditions, nothing beats sitting down and watching a horror movie with friends or family as you laugh, scream, or cry if that’s your thing. There are many fantastic and popular Halloween movies. If you are into the classics, then you might turn on “Nightmare on Elm Street” or the original “Halloween”. If you want a more freaky, gory experience, then you might watch “Saw” or “Friday the 13th”. If the family is around then you might turn on some “Ghostbusters” or “Hocus Pocus.” However, one franchise stands out. One that keeps coming back no matter what is happening in the world.
The “Scream” Franchise began when the first movie hit theaters back in December of 1996. It was a hit and many people went to view this frightening experience. It was a major success and remained in the top ten box office wise for multiple weeks. It was the highest grossing slasher movie at the time until “Halloween” (2018) came out. The film was about a masked killer that was going around, killing teenagers and terrifying locals. Every victim would receive a call from an eerie, calm, smooth voice before being murdered in cold blood.
The film revolves around a teenage girl named Sidney Prescott. One year after the mysterious murder of her mother, killings start to happen to people in her very own high school. Soon, Sidney finds herself along with her friends as direct targets that “Ghostface” is determined to kill. She has to figure out who is behind these murders before she herself is a victim. She turns on people and cannot even trust her own friends. The film ends in a shocking way, and comes to a bittersweet but satisfying end.
The thing about “Ghostface” however, is that he never truly goes away. He isn’t just a killer, he is an idea. He is a movement and a persona that anybody can become, anybody can wear the mask. Which makes him much more dangerous. This fact is what occurs in the following movies of the franchise. Where we reunite with people from the original and new characters that are related to the events. We see “Ghostface” return in each movie, looking to kill for many different motives.
All these events will lead us to the seventh movie in the franchise which is expected to hit theaters February 27, 2026. It will be a long, but hopefully fulfilling wait. So, if you have not seen any of the scream movies, then this Halloween season is a great opportunity for you. Gather your friends and family, grab a snack and enjoy these fantastic movies that have been pumping adrenaline in our bodies since 1996. Have a spooky Halloween Saint Joe!
