Another hurricane is headed toward Florida… and this one could be even worse. Coming from the Gulf of Mexico, Hurricane Milton is a category 5 hurricane that is going to devastate Florida’s west coast. APnews.com says that “the ferocious storm could land a once-in-a-century direct hit on Tampa and St. Petersburg.”
The storm was first downgraded to a category four hurricane but was upgraded again to a category five hurricane as it comes closer to Florida building up more and more wind speed. Hurricane Milton has up to 165 mph winds, and will hit land with about 120 mph winds.
The hurricane is predicted to produce multiple feet of rain when it hits land, and will be catastrophic to the areas of Florida that it is expected to hit. Evacuation orders are in place and Joe Biden is urging the people under evacuation orders to leave as it is a “matter of life and death” (USA Today).
Hurricane Milton is coming right on the heels of Hurricane Helene which also formed in the Gulf of Mexico and devastated Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, and even affected states all the way North to Tennessee. Hurricane Helene was a category 4 Hurricane at landfall and killed 230 people and counting (AP News).
Hurricane Milton is said to be the worst hurricane to hit Florida in a century, and with Hurricane Helene happening not even a month ago is making life very hard for residents in Florida, some of whom are displaced from their homes currently and have nowhere to go. This Hurricane will have a very significant impact on the lives of those who live in Florida, and we need to pray for them and help as much as we can by doing things like sending donations to organizations like the Red Cross.
